From kuo (to swell (with young), i.e. Bend, curve); a billow (as bursting or toppling) -- wave.
KJV: And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
NASB: And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being covered with the waves; but Jesus Himself was asleep.
KJV: But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.
