Bible Study Exodus 4 Part 2 Want adventure? The 7 things that will change when you start to obey God.

Episode Summary

Do you long for adventure? What if it can happen when you decide to obey God? It can and will because you were made to serve God. He will start you on a journey that will change all areas of your life.

Episode Notes

In our previous podcast, we discussed God becoming angry at Moses's unbelief. If we want to make God angry, that is the place to start---unbelief. Denying His existence in this beautifully ordered world is foolish. But once we have asked Christ into our lives, we are going to be confronted with obedience to God's word. We were not prepared for the impact of correctly studying God's word had on our life when we first started. But this lack of understanding makes sense because Moses struggled in the beginning, and so did the disciples. Can we expect anything different? NO!

We understand from Judaism that our life, which is given to us from God, is for the express purpose of worshiping and serving God. But as our Creator, He gives us free will and then invites us to go into service to Him willingly. Rarely do people accept this call. Moses almost didn't. Will we? In these passages, our entire life is being affected by our decision to take this service from God. Sometimes we "compartmentalize" our walk with the Lord into separate focuses. We must not.

So, what are the six things that happened to Moses after he decided to start walking with the Lord?

  1. Obeying God's word is walking with God. You become a disciple. Christ is the word of God (John 1:1) Moses started walking in obedience and repentance to the Word the Lord gave to him about confronting Pharaoh. Thus, a newness of a relationship with God begins. We know this to be true in our lives.
  2. Obeying God produces the fruit of repentance. Repentance begins to soften our hearts toward God. Sin produces hard hearts. We will see a hard heart with Pharaoh. Before this, we see some evidence of God opposing Moses. Pride and stubbornness to obey are at the heart of our resistance. God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Here is a side opinion: He wants to provide us with revelation. We fight it. Our flesh is opposed to the will of God. The counter to our flesh is the Bible. It is our instruction from the Lord. Want to be a disciple of Christ? Submit your heart and start walking in repentance. Repentance is lining up with the will of God to perform it. Get moving! We did, and it changed our lives!
  3. Obeying God will affect your employment. Moses continued in the fruits of repentance as he went to engage his employer, which happened to be his father in law. He returned (same word as repentance) to his father in law to quit his job to complete the assignment God had instructed Him. Moses' obedience was hard on Jethro because it meant he could lose his grandsons and his daughter in their journey to follow Moses to save the children of Israel. Pharaoh was the ruler of the world! In our "work-life" as well, God expects us to obey His word regardless of the potential outcomes. But isn't this how an excellent adventure is crafted?

Psalm 3 David is fleeing Absolam

This is a tough Psalm for David. When we have troubles in our life, sometimes they are a consequence of our own actions even if we have repented and turned back toward God from the evil of the consequence. Absolam is attempting to steal David's throne by disrespecting his father David. Psalms are born in trials and troubles.

Will we learn to worship during these times? Will we trust God or become angry and depend on ourselves? As you learn with us to worship in Psalms, go read the story of David and Absolam. It is a tragedy for Absolam and David. But David, unlike Absolam, is restored. Why? Because David turned to the Lord, AS HE WAS BEING CHASED OUT OF HIS KINGDOM! Read the Psalm while reading the story. But look on your own life and make it your own through praying it back to the Lord. Absolam was in rebellion to God. His name means "Father of Peace". Peace in Hebrew has a very deep context to it. But the best peace we can have is peace with God through salvation and repentance. Absolam was not acting toward his father with peace nor with God. He was rebelling against two fathers! Will we? Join us for this wonderful Psalm to learn to worship which is our highest calling.

How we learned to study the bible with Dr. Baruch of Loveisrael.org

Episode Summary

How we learned to study with Dr. Baruch of Loveisrael.org

Episode Notes

We are in our study of Exodus. This is a picture of our Christian life. You can take Exodus themes and trace them into the Gospels. Exodus is a book of redemption. And so are the gospels. Mary and I realized as we got to Exodus 4, that this is where we started to learn to study with Dr. Baruch. What are the steps? We prefer not to use formalized steps because too much of Christian teaching is based on "the 10 easy steps" of this or that. We can safely say that God isn't a "step". He is our Maker, Creator of the Universe and expects us to walk before Him with a commitment to His word and working with Him on our sin (Titus 2:11-12). He paid a horrible price to redeem us from our sin and our eternal death and we want to give back to Him our love and stop our former evil life. "If you love me you will obey My commandments". John 14:15. If we love Him we will obey. What do we do? Start to study the bible. John 1 says "The Word was made flesh"! We can be disciples if we follow Christ. We can then make the case that studying the bible is following Christ.

Our podcast is about the "steps" or the actions we take in our study. A synopsis is; we study before referring to any commentary. Then we check with Dr. Baruch in biblestudycompany.com videos and compare our "try" with his knowledge. We then make adjustments in our study and growth. Rinse and repeat. Join Ric and Mary Joyner of Podcast for Pewsitters to find out the steps of how we study with Dr. Baruch. Please share.

Exodus 4 Part 2 Will Moses be obedient to God's Word?

MP3 DOWNLOAD

In Exodus 4 PT 2, God is on the move to fulfill His plans and purposes. Moses is in dialogue with the Lord, which is prayer. Moses is in the process of rejecting God's word, and the Lord gets angry. Why? This is because of unbelief. Not trusting all of our future outcomes on God Almighty. Unbelief is the opposite of faith, which is obedience to God's word. Unbelief is rejecting God's words, and thus the great things He has for our lives. "Wait," you say: "Podcast for Pewsitters, Moses was being asked to take on the most powerful person and nation on the planet." Yep, this is the same as Christ asking us to take up our cross daily (well sort of but not as dramatic) and put our will and desires aside. Can we? No. Not unless we get help from God, Who, by the way, is the Creator of the Universe (let that sink in). So will we ask Him for His power? Will we respond? If we are being honest with God, we could pray, "Lord, I am so scared, and I think I will fail you." We believe God loves those kinds of sincere dialogue. We even had one ourselves. "Lord, I can't follow you...I tried and failed..." Good, that you failed in your own strength. Now try using His power! Grace is the saving power of Christ, and the Holy Spirit will teach us away from everything ungodly. Titus 2:11-12 When we are moving away from ungodliness and being obedient to God's word we are in grace. What is our willingness to obey God, and be in honest prayer? If Moses struggled with obedience, you will too. Be encouraged. He will help us!

Are we chasing God's word or mans words? Exodus Chapter 3 Part 4

MP3 Download only http://bit.ly/2RKnmw0

Are we reading God's word to know ABOUT him or to KNOW him? When we love someone, we spend time with them. Our Bible helps us get to know God by asking Him to reveal His purposes to us. God's Word is what created us and sustains us. In Exodus 3 Part 4, Moses is confronted by God to carry out His will, to free the people enslaved in Egypt. God is literally revealing himself to Moses through a "image of a man" in a burning bush. This is the same for us today. We are to be in the image of God, reflecting his Character. How do we do this? First serve the Lord, make him our priority, study His word with the depth and reverence it deserves. Then when he says go, GO!

Christ came to earth for us, so we could physically see how God would act in a human body. Do we understand this truth? Are we willing to now turn our hearts and lives over to him at the foot of the cross? Are we willing to approach the Word of God in a way that would deepen our relationship with our Creator? We must know that the Word of God is our lifeline to our Christian walk here on earth. Our born-again experience doesn't end with giving our hearts to Christ and repenting. It is just the beginning of an awakened Spirit that can now experience revelation and understanding where we couldn't before. It is the very thing that changes us from the inside out. Our eyes are then open to the reality that redemption is possible through our Savior Christ and our desire to Obey and Serve him comes from pure gratitude and LOVE!

Exodus 3 Part 3 In whose shoes are we walking? God's or ours?

MP3 Download Link: http://bit.ly/2Y0LCuV

Exodus 3 Part 3 In whose shoes are we walking?

In whose shoes are we walking? God's shoes or our shoes? His will or our will? This is crucial for us to note. Why? Moses engaged the Egyptians in Exodus 2 in his strength or his shoes, not God's will. An Egyptian died as a result. And Moses fled Egypt. Why? The 40 years Moses was in the wilderness was a preparation time, as much for Moses, as for the Hebrews. God wants to prepare us for service in His Kingdom. This "wilderness experience" of depending on God is especially true in the times we are currently living. Will we submit to His word before circumstances get beyond our control? Shall we turn to God now for help knowing His word, so we become prepared for the times ahead?  We can obey the Scripture by putting our hearts up against the Word of God, as Moses is now doing in Exodus 3 Part 3. Moses' choices changed him, and our choices to be in God's will change us as well. Can we see that obedience to God's revelation in His Word will give us power? Why? We are operating for His purposes and glory...not our own.

Here is a crucial bible study principle. We are not Moses. Thus we cannot live the way Moses lived. But is this a correct point of view? No.  The Holy Spirit is using the story of Moses to show us that we each have choices as Moses did. Moses's hard-earned lessons are ours if we receive them into our lives by asking the constant questions: "Lord, open my eyes, I want to obey you. How can I respond to You correctly?" The Lord will answer this prayer. When we approach Scripture, we can have this attitude.

The revelation of the Lord will change our life like it did Moses. We can learn Moses' lessons. The goal of the Holy Spirit is for us to line up with God's plans and revelation. But be prepared, it means we will be changed! You will go on a journey with God.

What is the next event on God's prophetic calendar? Dr. Baruch Korman of Loveisrael.org covers Ezekiel 44:23-17

EPISODE SUMMARY
First Annual Bible Study Company Conference. When will the tribulation start? What is the next event on God's prophetic calendar?  Dr. Baruch Korman of Loveisrael.org covers Ezekiel 44:23-17

EPISODE NOTES
Dr. Baruch gives us the next events in God's prophetic timetable. It is as if you are sitting in front of Dr. Baruch, who is creating a dinner full of events that we can see unfolding. We are indeed in a startling time of history. Prophecy is unfolding before our eyes in rapid acceleration. For example, some of the questions Dr. Baruch answers are: When will the tribulation start? Watch Iran. What is the next prophetic escalation? The religion of the Anti-Christ will be tolerance, except for Jews and Christians. Why is global climate change a huge deal? Are there ways for us to be a Kingdom person? Why is there such a focus away from God's word in the church and to signs and wonders? Does the prayer of people in church seem to be for emotional revivals that focus on experiences rather than discipleship? The Lord always calls us to submit our lives to Him and His word. By asking for Christ's help to change us to line up with His will, the greatest miracle of all happens. A person's heart is changed; they are born again; they can understand God's ways and will bear fruit according to Christ and the Kingdom of God.

How do we become disciples? By studying God's Word. Part 2 Dr. Baruch Korman Romans 9:17-33

Mary and I were in a bible study we had today for a group. We discussed the role of the bible in our lives. We discussed every pewsitters "role" in going to church. We dutifully go to church but are listening to what pastors teach about the bible but rarely engage Scripture ourselves. The group nodded in agreement. We also explained that the bible is 66 books with 37 authors! But the exciting theme in Scripture is that God, Who could speak the universe into existence, is impacting the lives of people. The people who put their trust in God as a result of obedience to His word, faired very well under His Lordship, rather than following their heart's desires. He is moving in our lives as well. We either see Him or not. "What did you just say, Ric?" Yes, we can miss Him as He is moving through history. We are blinded by our own minds to His ways. And if we are lucky enough, we may come in contact with Christ, and we are born again. Our eyes are changed. What now? How do we move forward? We go to church. We are told what to do and what to know and even what to think. But is this the model of discipleship that Christ had with His disciples? No. They were in a relationship with Him as He moved through their lives and onto a goal of doing the Father's Will. What is God's will for you? To be in submission to His will and thus His word. But you have to be a disciple first. As a person in the pew, how do we go about being a disciple? Take a course? Better yet, how can I study like Dr. Baruch? Change your thinking and start a relationship with the God of the bible by engaging His word. In this podcast or video, Dr. Baruch shares how we can begin to study like a disciple. If we are serious about Scripture, He may open up the word to us. (Prov 1-2) We may get to see into the Living God's heart! We can get to know Him and His ways. David did. David learned through the trials of life and the word of God, to do His will. Will you? Pick up the word to obey God in a relationship with Him today. Don't think you can? Ask Him to change you. He will. And don't let HIM GO like Jacob refused to do. You, like Jacob, will never walk the same again. Join us as we listen to Dr. Baruch expound the scriptures to inspire us to be doers of the word.

If you wish to download hit share and subscribe and a download version is there.

EPISODE SUMMARY
What is next on the prophetic timeline and are you ready? We are to be Kingdom of God minded people. Dr. Baruch Korman at the First Annual User Conference explains how to line our lives up with God's prophetic calendar.

EPISODE NOTES
What is next on the prophetic calendar? People we encountered have said; "It doesn't feel right in the world, and something is wrong." We agree. There is something unsettled, and it is the events that are rising, as if from the turbulent "sea" of political chaos. Nations are indeed rising against nation and religious persecution around the world is at an all-time high. Churches seem to be oblivious to the needs of people and God's call to preach the word of God and make disciples. Can we know what is happening and when? Dr. Baruch opens up the Scripture to see the next events on God's timeline. But are you ready? Are you a Kingdom-minded person? Don't know how to be? This podcast will get you started. The first place is to get on our face before the Lord Jesus. Then ask for a new heart in our fight against sin and for help in living a praiseworthy life to Him. He wants us to be ready. That can only happen with a submitted heart to the Lord. Join us for this podcast.

Exodus Chapter 2 Part 5 Is life pummeling you?

Ever feel pummeled? That life is throwing circumstances at you? Could these be trials and tests? If we put ourselves under the Kingdom of God seeking His will and to be pleasing to our King then these are indeed for our good. But what if we react wrongly or make a bad decision? What if a series of events start that you can’t stop and perhaps people reject you? Is God in this with you? This podcast is about Ric and Mary Joyner going through a pummeling time. Moses in Exodus 2 Part 5 has made a horrible decision to help God save the Hebrew people from Egypt. A major life change happens as a result. Ric and Mary experience several major life changes that hurt! Ever felt like this? Moses goes from “top of the world” to what appears to be the lowest job on Earth, and a new family, culture and leaving loved ones behind. This is painful, this is disorientating, this is sad. How will he ever recover? God is with Him. He is with us. Listen or watch with Ric and Mary how God moves for those who love Him and want to be Kingdom people. The bible study principle: "The Holy Bible invades our life" is real. We believe that God uses circumstances to reinforce what we are studying and thus is the reason for the pummeling! So the Lord is allowing you to experience the lessons of Scripture! And in the next few podcasts we will show you how this principle is working with people who decide to study the Holy Bible together especially as husband and wife.

Step 2 of Bible Study: Prayer and Obedience

Prayer is vital when studying the Bible. We are appealing to the Holy Spirit for guidance. He is always working for the glory of God. Changing our position from studying the Bible to gain knowledge to obedience is crucial. We can go on to step 2 which is a prayer for the Holy Spirit to open up Scripture to us for the plans and purposes of God. We then respond by aligning ourselves with what He reveals.

Too often we "read over" passages we don't understand. He will reveal We are God's creation and He wants us to know His will. But, will we choose to pray for His understanding and then our obedience? We are like most people. We studied the bible to benefit ourselves. Our lives dramatically changed when we started to study to OBEY GOD. Christ laid down His will for God's Will. Will we? God will show us His purpose for our lives and give us the power to obey. Our lives will radically transform into becoming a disciple. A disciple is one who obeys the word of God. When you study, pray for the Holy Spirit to guide you. Here is a promise in 1 John 2:27

"As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him."

The Birth of Christ. The death of Christ. The cause? Unrepentant sin.

We all know the story. In fact, the whole world knows this story. As those who are genuinely heart-set on being a disciple of His and are sincerely sorry for our sin, we know the REAL meaning of Christmas. Christ had one mission, and that was to take God’s wrath for our sin. Not a pretty sight to think about at this time of year, is it? But once we do grasp this truth, we can be grateful in watching His life as He grew up and in being observant we can see what He did and how Christ used the word of God to combat and point out unrepentant sin.

Before you wake up to Santa coming, and then open your gifts, look at One that doesn’t look like a present, but is the PRESENCE of God Almighty come to earth as a child to die for us. Seriously, we had no hope of eternal life without Jesus Christ’s brutal criminal’s death and payment of our sins.

Mary and I were studying the Bible in Exodus where the tabernacle building instructions were given to Moses. We were reading about the making of the bronze altar. To us, this seemed brutal to kill an innocent animal for our sin and was offensive to us. I had a thought interrupt my thoughts: “I am offended at you.” Whoa, that set me back on my heels! I sensed the context though was in love. The offense was our sin. The solution was Him. Then another thought crossed: “If the lamb was to be without blemish why was Christ brutally beaten?” This thought so perplexed me that I sat in wonderment of the question. I said: “Yes, that is true. How then can Jesus Christ be our “Passover lamb”? Answer: “He was sinless and thus without blemish.” “Ah…then ok. But then Lord, why was He brutally beaten like a criminal?” Answer: “Because people are criminals before God because of our sin.” And this type of punishment was used during Roman times when slaves started to rebel. As the rebellion of the servant continued the discipline ramped up to the viciousness, we saw meted out to Jesus…our babe in the manger. No one but God could take the wrath of God, someone said. Feel free to let that sink in. (As an aside; we were created for Him to serve Him and by default are His servants…but many of us don’t act like we are. We are rebellious toward God’s Word and Will and deserve these punishments.)

What caused the need for His death and the wrath of God poured out on Him? Unrepentant sin. What causes evil in the world? Unrepentant sin. We have a theory: Were religions and legalism created by men to cover unrepentant sin?

Christ’s first words at the start of His ministry were: Matthew 4:16-17… “16the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has dawned.” 17From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.”

We have seen a great light, and so did the wise men. They were wise because they followed the starlight to the King of the Universe and gave Him gifts. Their wisdom came in obedience to God. We must act in accordance. As we celebrate Jesus Christ birth, let us examine our hearts with the light of the Holy Spirit for unrepentant sin in our lives to be pleasing servants. Then ask Him to empower us to keep His Word which He gladly does! Our gift back to Him so to speak. Immanuel comes in a manger and God is indeed with us!

Forever grateful for His Coming,

Ric and Mary Joyner

Bible Study Step 1 Obey God vs Knowledge About God

You have heard it said: “Obedience is better than sacrifice”. What is obedience to God?

We were created in Gen 2 for the purpose of serving God. Our worship and ministry are to HIM ALONE. Just like Adam and Eve. He then put them in His garden. This garden contains His rules and His boundaries. He gave us free will. True love always is about choosing to love or not. God considers those who obey His Word... those who love Him. (John 14:15) Look at your own children. When our kids obey us and the boundaries, we set for them, we swell with pride and want to do all we can to help them to achieve.  But Adam and Eve chose not to obey the Word of God. We are Adam and Eve. We/They decided they would live their own life apart from dependence on God. This caused sin to enter the world and sin creates death and SEPARATION FROM GOD. Their "sin" affected billions of people and the entire creation.  Can we say that the original sin was disobedience to the Word of God?

What hope do we have if they died because of their disobedience to the Word of God? They were separated from God...dead spiritually. We have a clue in John 3 that Christ said we must be born again. How? So this is our study and podcast. There are so many nuggets of biblical truth to help us obey. God answered a question we had of whether He will speak to us because we were not professionals? YES! Proverbs 1 says He is shouting to the world, yet we won't have the ability to hear Him if we are in the mindset of disobedience to God aka sin. Do we want to take that risk in the only life we have to live? Basically, turning from the One Who created us? NO!

Why study the Bible? We are all called to be disciples of Christ if we are born again and have accepted His sacrifice for our sin. Then we are born new in our spirit and now can understand the Word of God. Christ is the Word of God. (John 1). As untrained professionals, how do we approach the Word of God to learn His ways? (Heb 3:10) The disciples were not trained bible teachers. So what was different about them? What can we learn from their lives and why did Christ's focus on them? With the help of the Holy Spirit, they obeyed His Word. (John 14:15) We can too. We need to change our approach from gaining knowledge ABOUT God to OBEDIENCE to God. Join us for Podcast for Pewsitters Bible Study Step 1 Obey God vs Gain Knowledge. Come and join Ric and Mary Joyner for our first weekly series on Bible study of studying the bible to obey God not just gain knowledge about God.

Broken Bits of Life Pottery

By Ric and Mary Joyner

My mom used to say: "I am literally flabbergasted". I am too, and my heart says WOW! Why? First, when we compare ourselves to Christ, we cannot come close to anything He did or WHO He is…The God of the Universe in Human form. As I peer into the gospels, I look in wonder at His mission (to die) and how His people rejected Him. The bible is written to people who believed in God. Remember that fact… we are them. They are us. We must see Him as the Jewish people saw Him in their culture. In His miracles which He did to restore people. In their religious services. In their Holy Book. How can I compare? What if I ask Christ into my life and repent of my sins how then can I change to match the God of the Universe in the flesh? Am I without hope? Don’t people say: “I am not going to church because it is full of hypocrites”? They are right. And they are hypocrites too! We are all broken bits and pieces of life pottery. But then I see this verse, and I marvel that while in this body (it needs to be thinner) which we will discard shortly, I have no power in myself, to stop sinning. No amount of good works at judgment will save me from the ten commandments. We have all lied, we have all lusted after someone, we all have stolen, and we have all used God’s precious name in vain (ever ask yourself why God’s name is a swear-word in any language?). Flatly, we are under judgment from God. We need saving. Christ said He came not to judge but to save. In other words, we are already judged and under God’s wrath unless someone helps us, poor humans. Romans 2:5-6  But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6 who WILL RENDER TO EACH PERSON ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS…(read the verses around these).

But it is up to us to respond to His calling and put trust in His death and resurrection. Each person’s SIN penalty is paid when Christ voluntarily took it to the cross. A true gift from God just like the air we breathe, the family we enjoy and the good food we eat.

But how do I walk out my life to honor His sacrifice because I am going to sin again? I am going to fail again. (you know…the broken life pottery thing?)

I am in astonishment of this fact: Galatians 3: 27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. (Read the verses in context around it because they are so encouraging). By faith, we can “put on Christ’s righteousness” because we don’t have any! How? We identify with His death BY FAITH. Thus, when He was raised from the dead we are raised too…now and in the future! We have eternal life. WOW!  2 Cor 17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 18 Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation... See that? We now can share the good news with people that they too can be reconciled to God and not remain in our sinful states. Wonderment!

The broken life pottery pieces come together now! We are a new pot with new hope and new life. We clothe ourselves with Christ, and by doing so, we are “clothed” with His righteousness. Not mine because I don’t have any, but HIS!. Now doesn’t that make you joyful? My heart soars when contemplating walking in His clothes! Doesn’t that make you want to live your life asking Christ to change you to obey Him through His Spirit! WOW! Take the first step by asking for that reconciliation. Romans 10:13… for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED."

Call on Christ and see your broken life come together.  If you did this after reading, please let us know.
