Bible Study Exodus 4 Part 2 Want adventure? The 7 things that will change when you start to obey God.

Episode Summary

Do you long for adventure? What if it can happen when you decide to obey God? It can and will because you were made to serve God. He will start you on a journey that will change all areas of your life.

Episode Notes

In our previous podcast, we discussed God becoming angry at Moses's unbelief. If we want to make God angry, that is the place to start---unbelief. Denying His existence in this beautifully ordered world is foolish. But once we have asked Christ into our lives, we are going to be confronted with obedience to God's word. We were not prepared for the impact of correctly studying God's word had on our life when we first started. But this lack of understanding makes sense because Moses struggled in the beginning, and so did the disciples. Can we expect anything different? NO!

We understand from Judaism that our life, which is given to us from God, is for the express purpose of worshiping and serving God. But as our Creator, He gives us free will and then invites us to go into service to Him willingly. Rarely do people accept this call. Moses almost didn't. Will we? In these passages, our entire life is being affected by our decision to take this service from God. Sometimes we "compartmentalize" our walk with the Lord into separate focuses. We must not.

So, what are the six things that happened to Moses after he decided to start walking with the Lord?

  1. Obeying God's word is walking with God. You become a disciple. Christ is the word of God (John 1:1) Moses started walking in obedience and repentance to the Word the Lord gave to him about confronting Pharaoh. Thus, a newness of a relationship with God begins. We know this to be true in our lives.
  2. Obeying God produces the fruit of repentance. Repentance begins to soften our hearts toward God. Sin produces hard hearts. We will see a hard heart with Pharaoh. Before this, we see some evidence of God opposing Moses. Pride and stubbornness to obey are at the heart of our resistance. God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Here is a side opinion: He wants to provide us with revelation. We fight it. Our flesh is opposed to the will of God. The counter to our flesh is the Bible. It is our instruction from the Lord. Want to be a disciple of Christ? Submit your heart and start walking in repentance. Repentance is lining up with the will of God to perform it. Get moving! We did, and it changed our lives!
  3. Obeying God will affect your employment. Moses continued in the fruits of repentance as he went to engage his employer, which happened to be his father in law. He returned (same word as repentance) to his father in law to quit his job to complete the assignment God had instructed Him. Moses' obedience was hard on Jethro because it meant he could lose his grandsons and his daughter in their journey to follow Moses to save the children of Israel. Pharaoh was the ruler of the world! In our "work-life" as well, God expects us to obey His word regardless of the potential outcomes. But isn't this how an excellent adventure is crafted?

Psalms are about worshipping THE ONE IN CONTROL when we lose control

Worship with us in Psalms 1-4. We are reading the scripture back to the Lord and making it our own.

What is your concept of worship? Going to church and listening to "nice" songs that you can sing to the Lord? The majority of the Psalms were written by David to worship the Lord. Why? Because the current king, Saul, spent many years trying to kill David! I could imagine David thinking: "Lord, You chose me to be king, but people are chasing me to kill me...this makes no sense?" Going through these trials caused David to learn dependence on the Lord. Will we in our testing? How do we worship in trials when everything in our being is screaming: "WHY DID YOU DO THIS TO ME, LORD?!" At this very moment in our emotional turmoil, this is where we can grab Psalms and read them back to the Lord. Psalms are about worshiping THE ONE IN CONTROL when we lose control.

Trials and tough times require us to dig down...like a well...and learn to tell God everything. He already knows, but He wants to be with us through hard times because if we learn to worship and respond correctly, we will grow in Him. It is a challenge few people will undertake.

The Children of Israel in the Exodus continually complained when faced with trials. In Heb 3:10 this scripture shows how angry the Lord was with their attitude. He was trying to bring them to the promised land. When confronted by real fear for our desperate needs, how will we respond? Worship using Psalms!  Please share so that we can grow.

How we learned to study the bible with Dr. Baruch of Loveisrael.org

MP3 DOWNLOAD

Episode Summary

How we learned to study with Dr. Baruch of Loveisrael.org

Episode Notes

We are in our study of Exodus. This is a picture of our Christian life. You can take Exodus themes and trace them into the Gospels. Exodus is a book of redemption. And so are the gospels. Mary and I realized as we got to Exodus 4, that this is where we started to learn to study with Dr. Baruch. What are the steps? We prefer not to use formalized steps because too much of Christian teaching is based on "the 10 easy steps" of this or that. We can safely say that God isn't a "step". He is our Maker, Creator of the Universe and expects us to walk before Him with a commitment to His word and working with Him on our sin (Titus 2:11-12). He paid a horrible price to redeem us from our sin and our eternal death and we want to give back to Him our love and stop our former evil life. "If you love me you will obey My commandments". John 14:15. If we love Him we will obey. What do we do? Start to study the bible. John 1 says "The Word was made flesh"! We can be disciples if we follow Christ. We can then make the case that studying the bible is following Christ.

Our podcast is about the "steps" or the actions we take in our study. A synopsis is; we study before referring to any commentary. Then we check with Dr. Baruch in biblestudycompany.com videos and compare our "try" with his knowledge. We then make adjustments in our study and growth. Rinse and repeat. Join Ric and Mary Joyner of Podcast for Pewsitters to find out the steps of how we study with Dr. Baruch. Please share.

Exodus Chapter 4 Part 1 Are you an honest person?

MP3 Download

Exodus Chapter 4 Part 1 Are you an honest person?

Why do we need to study the Bible? Because God has given us the Word of God to reveal Himself to us. We discuss this fact in this podcast for pewsitters. God is outside space and time. How can we, a created being for God's purposes, understand a God, Who can create the universe by speaking it into existence? Through the Bible. WOW think about that! Isn't that truth exciting? Let's ask more questions.

Are we experiencing revelation in your bible study? Several questions we must ask ourselves.

  1. Are you an honest person?
  2. Do we see a progression in our life toward God's will? This question matters because of what the Lord said in Matthew 7:21-24 21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 "Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' 23 "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.' 24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
  3. And what will it cost you to study the Bible?
  4. And are you willing to be "just" a servant of God?

If you are not in God's word, you can trick yourself into believing what you are doing or changing in your life is according to what God wants, but maybe our motives and maybe what WE desire vs. what God desires. Is this the way God wants us to approach the Bible? No.

We will see several progressions of Moses that we can apply to our life:

  1. Prayer progression. Moses is growing in his relationship with God in communication
  2. Revelation progression. Moses is growing in revelation to the will of God
  3. Relationship progression. Moses is getting to know Who God is
  4. Obedience progression is tied to listening and acting on God's word
  5. Walking with the Lord means He is walking through life with us. And many things will come into your life that you have no control over, and we need to look at these and pay attention.

Thus, honesty to God, to ourselves and others, is paramount in our life. Psalm 32 discusses deceit in the context of sin. Blessed are those whose sin is covered!

We are made in the image of God. We reflect His righteousness out to the world. But where do we get His righteousness? From Him, and the Bible. How do we line up with the plans and purposes of God?

Do you ask questions of God from the Bible, or do you question God? Big difference.

When we line up with God's plans and purposes such as Moses in Exodus 4, we will have revelation from God. So how soon do you want to do this, and what will it cost you?

Bible Study Company Promo Video Shown at Loveisrael.org Annual Conference

This video was shown at the Loveisrael.org Annual Conference. We were Christians for many years before finding out this "secret". We were reading our favorite Christian books, sitting in the pews taking in what the pastor shared and using our bible as a devotional book. Our life changed dramatically when we changed our position to study the bible to be obedient to the word of God. But how? Watch the video.

When it hurts the most...

When it hurts the most...
When the tough things of life impact us what is our reaction? Do we get angry at other people? Do we agonize over the decision that created this mess? Do we blame God if a loved one is ill or we are? What if we are hurt in a church, family or work setting where we trusted people and a breach happened. These are deep wounds. As Mary and I studied the bible together to find God's agenda for our lives we saw some patterns develop. Let's take a look.
What can we learn in the Exodus? Complaining against God and others is not an appropriate response. Why? Because it actually says to God: "You are NOT caring for me the way I want You to and thus You Who created the Universe don't know what You are doing". [We cringe writing this as we are skirting using the Lord's name in vain by writing our thoughts about His character which are untrue, but this is for a teaching moment for us so please bear with us.] He is none of those negative traits and we actually can think He doesn't see my problem or care! Which is far from the truth. So what should be our response? Worship and thanksgiving. "WHAT!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME Bible Study Company!? I am in such pain right now you have no idea and so much bitterness". No, we are not kidding. We have been through some SCARRY SITUATIONS and are still going through some long term heart-wrenchers. As we studied God's Word to find out His agenda for our lives we saw the response of God's people in the desert to Him. Meaning that whenever a hard spot was encountered, they blamed God or Moses or both and said that He was taking them out in the desert to kill them! This is very hurtful and disrespectful to God and Moses since He just got done rescuing them and fed and watered them in the desert and actually created a climate-controlled environment. All of this the nations could see and marvel. So how can it enter our minds that He would be so cruel after showing so much love? In Heb 3:10 God shows how angry He was at being mistreated, and disrespected. They got their reward. By being buried in the desert of "man's" opinions versus being allowed into the promised land. See the irony? We are those people too. King David was a great example of someone who decided to trust God in very trying times. Imagine being made a king when the kingdom already had a king!? Yep, God fired King Saul and anointed David the lowly shepherd and King Saul focused his energy, not on repenting for failing to obey God, but on someone who was to replace him! Saul was hunting David down to kill him. David instead was hunting God's heart. But God was with David. Yep, the book of Psalms was written out of those trials. So grab your psalms and read them back to God in your own words when in a trial. Dig deep in the well of worship. Here is an example in Psalm 23: "The Lord is my Shepherd. (Stop) and now say: Lord you are my shepherd, I trust in you with xyz trial or person or situation. You will lead me to green pastures. Why? I know I can trust in Your great love for me. Change me so that I walk in Your ways, the ways You desire and not my own...". See now we are offering the sacrifice of praise. Heb 13:15. Christ did this too in all of His sufferings. The disciples couldn't see the benefit of Christ whom they loved tortured. But through His sacrifice, we can now put our sin on Him by faith and we are raised to newness of life. So if Christ could go through the brutality of suffering for us, let us offer the sacrifice of praise to Him! We have a saying at BSC "When it hurts the most worship the most".

What is next on God's prophetic calendar?

If you wish to download hit share and subscribe and a download version is there.

EPISODE SUMMARY
What is next on the prophetic timeline and are you ready? We are to be Kingdom of God minded people. Dr. Baruch Korman at the First Annual User Conference explains how to line our lives up with God's prophetic calendar.

EPISODE NOTES
What is next on the prophetic calendar? People we encountered have said; "It doesn't feel right in the world, and something is wrong." We agree. There is something unsettled, and it is the events that are rising, as if from the turbulent "sea" of political chaos. Nations are indeed rising against nation and religious persecution around the world is at an all-time high. Churches seem to be oblivious to the needs of people and God's call to preach the word of God and make disciples. Can we know what is happening and when? Dr. Baruch opens up the Scripture to see the next events on God's timeline. But are you ready? Are you a Kingdom-minded person? Don't know how to be? This podcast will get you started. The first place is to get on our face before the Lord Jesus. Then ask for a new heart in our fight against sin and for help in living a praiseworthy life to Him. He wants us to be ready. That can only happen with a submitted heart to the Lord. Join us for this podcast.

How do we approach the Bible?

How do we approach the Bible?

A dear friend is staying with us. A person who has been a Christian for many years but struggled with reading the bible. We know her "pain". She read it as a devotional because she did not know how to approach the Bible. This book is 66 mini books with 37 authors! They tell a SPIRITUAL story (derived from the Spirit of God through men about God's agenda for us). When Mary and I began to study the bible together and alone we changed our approach because of Dr. Baruch Korman's point: "We are to live a praiseworthy life to God". This meant we should approach the bible to find out how to please God. When we started our study of Exodus several years ago we had no idea that this story of the Hebrews leaving Egypt was a picture of our Christian life. "What did you just say, Ric?" Take a look at some of the themes in Exodus and overlay them in the gospels and you will see the themes there! (Example: wilderness, bondage, and sin, redemption with the Passover lamb, Matthew 5 and Exodus 20 are parallels) So today, sit down with your bible and ask the Lord: "Lord will you train me to study so I can please You regardless of what it costs me? Oh and regarding the cost, will you change me so I will obey you when I can't? And have Your Kingdome come on me please". Those are prayers that are praiseworthy to God because they line up with His Will. BTW our friend? She joined us for our study of Exodus this morning and she had never seen this change of approach and she was heartfelt glad and visibly touched. Join us in our pursuit of God's agenda for our lives. The promise of His opening scripture to us is contained in Proverbs 1.
