Bible Study Exodus 4 Part 2 Want adventure? The 7 things that will change when you start to obey God.

Episode Summary

Do you long for adventure? What if it can happen when you decide to obey God? It can and will because you were made to serve God. He will start you on a journey that will change all areas of your life.

Episode Notes

In our previous podcast, we discussed God becoming angry at Moses's unbelief. If we want to make God angry, that is the place to start---unbelief. Denying His existence in this beautifully ordered world is foolish. But once we have asked Christ into our lives, we are going to be confronted with obedience to God's word. We were not prepared for the impact of correctly studying God's word had on our life when we first started. But this lack of understanding makes sense because Moses struggled in the beginning, and so did the disciples. Can we expect anything different? NO!

We understand from Judaism that our life, which is given to us from God, is for the express purpose of worshiping and serving God. But as our Creator, He gives us free will and then invites us to go into service to Him willingly. Rarely do people accept this call. Moses almost didn't. Will we? In these passages, our entire life is being affected by our decision to take this service from God. Sometimes we "compartmentalize" our walk with the Lord into separate focuses. We must not.

So, what are the six things that happened to Moses after he decided to start walking with the Lord?

  1. Obeying God's word is walking with God. You become a disciple. Christ is the word of God (John 1:1) Moses started walking in obedience and repentance to the Word the Lord gave to him about confronting Pharaoh. Thus, a newness of a relationship with God begins. We know this to be true in our lives.
  2. Obeying God produces the fruit of repentance. Repentance begins to soften our hearts toward God. Sin produces hard hearts. We will see a hard heart with Pharaoh. Before this, we see some evidence of God opposing Moses. Pride and stubbornness to obey are at the heart of our resistance. God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Here is a side opinion: He wants to provide us with revelation. We fight it. Our flesh is opposed to the will of God. The counter to our flesh is the Bible. It is our instruction from the Lord. Want to be a disciple of Christ? Submit your heart and start walking in repentance. Repentance is lining up with the will of God to perform it. Get moving! We did, and it changed our lives!
  3. Obeying God will affect your employment. Moses continued in the fruits of repentance as he went to engage his employer, which happened to be his father in law. He returned (same word as repentance) to his father in law to quit his job to complete the assignment God had instructed Him. Moses' obedience was hard on Jethro because it meant he could lose his grandsons and his daughter in their journey to follow Moses to save the children of Israel. Pharaoh was the ruler of the world! In our "work-life" as well, God expects us to obey His word regardless of the potential outcomes. But isn't this how an excellent adventure is crafted?
