And turn ye not aside: for then should ye go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain.
NASB:
"You must not turn aside, for then you would go after futile things which can not profit or deliver, because they are futile.

And he gathered an host, and smote the Amalekites, and delivered Israel out of the hands of them that spoiled them.

He acted valiantly and defeated the Amalekites, and delivered Israel from the hands of those who plundered them.
