A primitive root; to subside -- be calm, cease, be quiet.
KJV: Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
NASB: Then they were glad because they were quiet, So He guided them to their desired haven.
KJV: Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.
NASB: For lack of wood the fire goes out, And where there is no whisperer, contention quiets down.
KJV: Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous.
NASB: So they said to him, "What should we do to you that the sea may become calm for us?"-- for the sea was becoming increasingly stormy.
KJV: And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you.
NASB: He said to them, "Pick me up and throw me into the sea. Then the sea will become calm for you, for I know that on account of me this great storm has come upon you."
