Perhaps the same as tarsos (a flat basket); Tarsus, a place in Asia Minor -- Tarsus.
KJV: Which when the brethren knew, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus.
NASB: But when the brethren learned of it, they brought him down to Caesarea and sent him away to Tarsus.
