"And if they are bound in fetters, And are caught in the cords of affliction,

They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.

"They kneel down, they bring forth their young, They get rid of their labor pains.

Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?

"Can you draw out Leviathan with a fishhook? Or press down his tongue with a cord?

The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.

The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me.

The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.

The cords of death encompassed me, And the torrents of ungodliness terrified me.

The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me.
