Here is a commentary written by Baruch at LoveIsrael.org concerning this week's Torah Portion--Shemot. Blessings and Shabbat Shalom! Parashat Sh’mot (Names) Exodus 1:1-6:1 Haftarah: Isaiah 27:6-28:13, 29:22-23 How do you respond when you see other people being blessed? Often the success of other people causes those around them to be envious. First, there is nothing wrong with wanting to be blessed too. The problem is this: instead of applying the same principles that brought about the blessings in those other people’s lives, individuals attempt to stop those blessings from continuing. A good example of this is the Egyptians. In this week’s Torah reading, it is clear that HaShem was blessing the Hebrews in their dwelling place in Egypt, Goshen. The Hebrews grew and multiplied and became a strong people in a relatively short period of time. The Egyptians saw this and instead of coming before the Hebrews and asking what was the source of this blessing and implementing the answer into their lives, what was their response? Their response was malice and to enslave the Hebrews and attempt to exterminate them by killing all their male offspring. There is something very similar taking place today. The tiny nation of Israel, only 65 years old, has grown and advanced in a manner that far surpasses it neighbors. The success story of the modern nation of Israel is truly a sign of G-d’s continued call upon the Jewish people. Instead of the other nations taking note of this, there is an utter complicity in regard to those who are calling for Israel’s destruction. Under the leadership of the United States, Iran is being allowed to continue their nuclear program. The prophet Malachi, 2,400 years ago, described an attitude that will surely bring about the judgment of G-d. “You have wearied HaShem with your words; yet you have said, “With what have we wearied (You)? (HaShem answers) When you say, “All who do evil (in reality do) good in the eyes of the L-rd and what He desires; or (when you say) where is the G-d of judgment?” Malachi 2:17 Although the actual meaning of the Hebrew verb is to weary someone, in this context the idea which is being expressed is one of contempt. HaShem will have contempt for those individuals who call evil good or doubts that G-d will judge sin. Prophetically, Iran will play an important role in the future, as this nation will lead other nations to attack Israel (See Daniel chapter 8). But Iran will not be successful. Be aware that this war will not be the final conflict; rather, it will only serve to bring the Antichrist into power and set things up for the end times. History has a way of repeating itself, yet many ignore the numerous examples of what has happened to those nations which have attacked Israel in the past. Will the United States of America will also join that illustrious list?

Here is a little commentary Baruch concerning this weeks Parasha (Torah Reading). Find more from Baruch on LoveIsrael.org. Blessings and Shabbat Shalom! Parashat Vayigash: Genesis 44:18 – 47:27 Haftarah: Ezekiel 37:15-28 According to the Jewish sages of old, Egypt symbolizes the world. That is to say that one can learn a great deal about the ways of the world by studying how Egypt behaved in the Scriptures. In this week’s Torah portion, one learns that the Children of Israel did not dwell with the Egyptians during the 430 years they were there. Rather, the Bible states that the Hebrews lived in a place called Goshen. Why was this? Some have stated so that the Hebrews did not assimilate into Egyptian society. While this may be true, according to the Talmud, Israel descended spiritually during this time even to the 49th level of impurity. It was not so much that the Hebrews did not want to dwell with the Egyptians; rather it was because the Egyptians did not want to dwell with the Hebrews. Why was this? The answer is found at the end of chapter 46. There, Joseph told Jacob and his brothers to inform Pharaoh about their livelihood.“And you shall say, ‘Men of livestock were your servants from our youth until now; also we and our forefathers, therefore we shall settle in the land of Goshen for it is an abomination (to the) Egyptians, every shepherd of sheep.’” Genesis 46:34 This verse has a dual fulfillment. Naturally it was true and applicable in its original context, for the Egyptians had utter contempt for a shepherd. However, the prophetic fulfillment of this verse is found in the future, when the world (which Egypt personifies) will have contempt for the Great Shepherd, Messiah Yeshua. It is very significant that in John chapter 10, Yeshua calls Himself “The Good Shepherd“. He also states that “the Good Shepherd gives His life for the sheep” (See John 10:11). Although Messiah emphatically teaches that He lays down His life and no one takes it, it is clear that the world in general hated, hates and will hate the Good Shepherd (See John 7:7). It is truly sad that in the same way one reads in our parashah, the abomination of Egypt is every shepherd; likewise, in an ever increasing manner, the world has an ever increasing amount of contempt for the truth concerning Yeshua. Although this is truly sad, do not despair; rather, realize it is a sign that our redemption draws near, i.e. the return of Messiah Yeshua and the establishment of His Kingdom. LoveIsrael.org

The people perceived (which means they were made aware of ) Gods commands but did not want to respond directly with God. Could it be they did not have the faith to give themselves over to God individually and would rather have someone else(Moses) be responsible to lead them? We are each responsible to follow our Lord and respond. No one else can do that for us. When we see that God is our only source of help in a physical world, we than begin to understand Grace and the power of forgiveness! Therefore, we can not even begin to forgive with out the grace of God!
