Of Persian derivation; the butler or other officer in the Babylonian court -- Melzar.
KJV: Then said Daniel to Melzar, whom the prince of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
NASB: But Daniel said to the overseer whom the commander of the officials had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah,
KJV: Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink; and gave them pulse.
NASB: So the overseer continued to withhold their choice food and the wine they were to drink, and kept giving them vegetables.
